Outcomes and the course of life

Outcomes and the course of life

By Tina Huynh (17 July 2012)

I believe it is the norm that one should do what one is good at or passionate about. I question though, what happens if you’re not so good at what you do, or are passionate about? What happens then? Do you change the course of your studies or work?

I have come to this doubt as my university results for the past semester have not been as desirable. For example, my journalism results are lower than my other subjects, and I have achieved unexpectedly great results for subjects that were somewhat dry and unenjoyable.

Having said this, I reflected on these outcomes and what they meant to me. I wonder if I should change the course that I am taking. Be that my studies and what I would like to do in life. Is it then, that our results, whether they be academic, or any outcomes in life, should they determine our next step? At this point, I really don’t know what my next step is. Perhaps it is to carry on and make some goals to attain, or maybe, a catalyst may determine my next move. Nevertheless, I believe one should be trying to achieve some level of satisfaction in any aspect of their lives.

I’m sure many people have endured situations that made them reflect on the course of their life. I find it empowering also, that one may take a new step, or better still, change the course.
