  • This company highly value their conservation interns as indispensable members of the team.
  • A program Manager often takes a group of interns with them to perform significant field work to rescue Australias environment.
  • The employer has welcomed hundreds of thousands of volunteers from around the world and supported their participation in a diversity of important projects to protect and enhance the environment.

The interns required skill set
  • Strong leadership, management and organizational skills, as well as understanding of community-based nonprofit programs
  • An ability to integrate and harmonize diversified functions between volunteers and staff
  • The ability to select, develop and motivate people and create a positive work and volunteer environment
  • Must be flexible and have well developed interpersonal skills
  • Must excel in personal interactions with the staff and volunteers at all levels of the organisation
A list of tasks the intern may assist with
  • The intern should expect the majority of the internship to be project-based and also include observation and assistance of the Managers at the Host Company.
  • Interns should also expect some administrative work of a general nature.
  • Help Local Councils and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service to manage bushland reserves
  • Planting, weeding and surveying
  • Study a broad Australian environmental history first hand
  • Learn different species of weeds, why they are a problem and how to control them
  • Good exposure to native vegetation and opportunity to learn many of the most representative groups
  • Conduct surveys of vegetation, which is a great experience to gain plant identification skills
  • Work is in various sites within the Sydney region, thus changing location at least once a week. Places include: Botany Bay National Park, Sydney Harbour National Park, Blacktown Bushland Reserves, Georges River, Wheeler Creek, Oxford Falls, just to mention some.
